Yesterday we woke up early, had some coffee and went to church. After church we walked around the church grounds and finally saw the famous grotto of Key West. The grotto was built to seek protection from hurricanes from Our Blessed Mother Mary. Since it’s construction in 1922, Key West hasn’t seen a devastating hurricane. Pretty interesting. We also saw the shrine to the unborn, which was really moving.
We checked out Martin’s for brunch. They have really great German toast.
After that we went home to catch up on house work. Jacob built part of a fence that had to be replaced and also replaced the boards on the front porch with brand new ones. Mischa did a deep clean on the house.
We went to a chicken fry for dinner at Sarabeth’s. It was really good. Neither of us have had fried chicken in years and this was a welcoming introduction to Southern cuisine.
We took a walk after dinner and stopped into Two Friends, but Brian wasn’t there, so we went to this country bar and watched people fall off a mechanical bull over and over again. Mischa got some beads thrown at her for free drinks at the drag show, so we went over there and checked out a show. Jacob got hit on by some guys. It was hilarious.
As we were walking home we spotted an outdoor tiki bar a block from our house and met some locals. We were invited to dinner at Harry Truman’s Little White House for the inauguration on Tuesday.
It’s absolutely beautiful outside today. Happy MLK day!
Oh and we also made some really awesome homemade banana ice cream the other day! Yum!
